Sir Cameron Mackintosh presents Lionel Bart's musical adaptation of Charles Dickens's classic novel
Oliver Twist. The production tells the story of young orphan Oliver as he travels
through the dark underbelly of London society. The musical score
features many famous numbers including Consider Yourself, Food
Glorious Food, You've Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two, I'd
Do Anything, Oom Pah Pah, As Long As He Needs Me and It's A Fine Life.
Oliver! received its West End premiere in 1960. A Broadway
production followed four years later. A new production of the show
was staged in 1994 under the direction of Sam Mendes. The
phenomenally popular new
production is based on the 1994 adaptation and is directed by
Rupert Goold, one of London's
hottest properties who has staged numerous shows in recent years, including his acclaimed production of
Macbeth, that won him the 2008 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Director.
The cast and orchestra of over 100 includes British comedy-actor Omid
Djalili as a most delightful Fagin until December 12th. The
part will then be taken over by Griff Rhys Jones.
Blackpool-born Jodie Prenger was selected for the role of Nancy
through a public vote on live television as part of the BBC
reality talent contest "I'd Do Anything". Please note
that her part is performed on Wednesday and
Thursday evenings by Tamsin Carroll.
