Everyone
is looking for love – some in impossible places.
Some mourn the love they have lost. Some long for love they are
refused. In Illyria love aches and madness rules.
Separated in a shipwreck from her twin brother and believing him
dead, Viola disguises herself as a boy and is employed by Count
Orsino to woo the reluctant Lady Olivia. Olivia is indeed finally
awoken from her own grief by a new love, but for the servant and
not the master, whilst Viola herself has fallen head over heels
for the Count.
Following its run in Stratford–upon–Avon, Shakespeare's darkly
comic Twelfth Night transfers to London's West
End for a limited 10-week season.
The Royal Shakespeare Company Chief Associate Director
Gregory Doran directs a company including Richard
Wilson making his RSC debut as Malvolio and James
Fleet as Sir Andrew Aguecheek. Gregory Doran's
recent RSC productions in London include Antony and Cleopatra,
A Midsummer Night's Dream and the award-winning Hamlet.
